Why a 30 minute timer?

Half an hour is the default unit of the working day. It is the smallest slot most calendars offer, the length of the standard meeting, and the block most people mean when they say they will "give it half an hour" - which is precisely why it so often runs to fifty minutes without a timer.

It is also the most common workout length. Thirty minutes of moderate activity most days of the week is the shape of nearly every public health activity guideline, because it is the point where the benefit is clear and the commitment is still realistic.

What people use a 30 minute timer for

  • Meetings and agenda blocks. The default calendar slot. A visible countdown is the simplest way to actually finish on time.
  • Workouts. Thirty minutes of moderate activity is the benchmark in most public health guidance.
  • Oven and roasting timers. Long roasts, baked dishes, and anything that needs one check partway through.
  • Deep work blocks. Longer than a pomodoro, still short enough to hold attention on a single problem.
  • Homework and revision. A half-hour block per subject is the standard structure for an evening of study.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 30 minutes of exercise a day enough?

It is the figure most national physical activity guidelines are built around - roughly thirty minutes of moderate activity on most days. It is a floor for health benefit rather than a target for fitness goals.

How do I stop a 30-minute meeting overrunning?

Put the countdown somewhere everyone can see rather than tracking it yourself. Sharing the timer link at the start of the call makes the remaining time a shared fact instead of one person's job to police.

Can I share this link with my class?

Yes - just copy the link from the box above and paste it into your LMS, email, or messaging app. When students open it they get a 30m timer that's ready to start with one tap. No account or download needed.

Does the timer save my progress?

The timer runs entirely in your browser - progress is not saved between page loads. If you refresh or close the tab the timer resets to 30m. For a timer that auto-starts when someone opens the link, add ?autostart=1 to the URL or use the shareable timer generator.

Can I add a label to my timer?

Absolutely. Add a ?label= parameter to the URL - for example https://stopwatch.now/timer-link/30m?label=Math+Quiz. The label appears above the countdown. You can also use the timer link generator to build a labelled timer link without editing URLs by hand.

Can I make the timer auto-start when someone opens the link?

Yes. Add ?autostart=1 to the URL. For example: https://stopwatch.now/timer-link/30m?autostart=1. The timer will begin counting down the moment the page loads - no click required.
