Why a 2 hour timer?
Two hours is the standard long exam. It is also about as long as a film, a full workshop session, or the outer limit of a single sustained work block before a break stops being optional.
At this length the timer is doing something different from a short countdown. You are not watching it - you are delegating the clock entirely so that you can stop thinking about time, which is the whole point of a two-hour block.

Yes. It tracks elapsed clock time rather than counting frames, so switching tabs or minimising the window does not slow it down. Browsers may delay audio in a background tab, so keep it visible if the alert matters.
Is two hours too long for one work block?
For most people it is past the point where focus holds without a break. It works best for tasks with a long warm-up, and it works much better with a genuine break at the end rather than rolling straight into the next block.
