Why a 10 minute timer?

Ten minutes is the shortest block that feels like a real session rather than an interruption. It is where guided meditation apps set their default, because it is long enough for breathing to actually settle and short enough that nobody negotiates with themselves about starting.

In the kitchen it is the hard-boiled egg. Around ten minutes in simmering water gives a fully set yolk without the grey-green ring that comes from overcooking, which is why egg instructions are always written as a timed range rather than a visual cue - you cannot see inside the shell.

What people use a 10 minute timer for

  • Hard-boiled eggs. About ten minutes gives a firm, fully yellow yolk. Longer and the yolk develops a grey ring.
  • Guided meditation. The common default session length, and long enough for breathing to slow measurably.
  • Exam reading time. Many exams open with a fixed reading period before writing is allowed.
  • Resting rice and roasts. Steamed rice and rested meat both want roughly ten minutes off the heat before serving.
  • Ten-minute tidy. A single timed sprint on one room clears more than an untimed hour spent drifting between them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do hard-boiled eggs take?

Roughly ten minutes in simmering water for a firm, fully set yolk. Around six to seven gives a jammy centre; much past twelve and you get the grey-green ring around the yolk that comes from overcooking.

Is ten minutes long enough to meditate?

It is the default length in most guided programmes for a reason - long enough for attention to settle, short enough to do daily without scheduling it. Consistency matters more than session length.

Can I share this link with my class?

Yes - just copy the link from the box above and paste it into your LMS, email, or messaging app. When students open it they get a 10m timer that's ready to start with one tap. No account or download needed.

Does the timer save my progress?

The timer runs entirely in your browser - progress is not saved between page loads. If you refresh or close the tab the timer resets to 10m. For a timer that auto-starts when someone opens the link, add ?autostart=1 to the URL or use the shareable timer generator.

Can I add a label to my timer?

Absolutely. Add a ?label= parameter to the URL - for example https://stopwatch.now/timer-link/10m?label=Math+Quiz. The label appears above the countdown. You can also use the timer link generator to build a labelled timer link without editing URLs by hand.

Can I make the timer auto-start when someone opens the link?

Yes. Add ?autostart=1 to the URL. For example: https://stopwatch.now/timer-link/10m?autostart=1. The timer will begin counting down the moment the page loads - no click required.
