People Counter Guide

A people counter is useful for events, rooms, classrooms, and attendance tracking. Use one counter for entries or two counters for in and out flow.

People Counter - Tips & Best Practices

  • Use separate counters for entry and exit if needed.
  • Label counts clearly before the event starts.
  • Copy the totals after the session.

Counting People at Events and Venues

The people counter tracks the number of individuals entering or leaving a space. For simple attendance, use one counter and increment it as each person arrives. For occupancy tracking — where the number in the room fluctuates — use two counters labelled In and Out, and calculate the difference to find current occupancy. Display the counter on a tablet near the entrance so staff can update it without breaking their workflow.

People Counter Use Cases

  • Classroom attendance: count students present at the start of each lesson.
  • Event check-in: track guests as they arrive for capacity management.
  • Venue occupancy: run In and Out counters to monitor live room capacity.
  • Workshop registration: count confirmed arrivals against the registration list.
  • Queue management: count how many people are waiting at any given moment.

When to Use the Multi Counter Instead

If you need to track attendance across several groups — multiple classrooms, multiple event sessions, or different ticket categories — use the multi tally counter so each group has an independent count on the same screen. The people counter is best for a single-stream count of one space or one event at a time.
