Frequently Asked Questions
Is the countdown accurate to my timezone?
Yes. The countdown uses your device's local timezone. When you enter a date and time (e.g., December 25 at 00:00), the countdown targets midnight in your local timezone. If you share the link with someone in a different timezone, the countdown targets the same absolute UTC moment, displayed in their local time - So "Christmas at midnight" will fire at the correct local midnight for each person. For a live comparison of current times across cities, see the world clocks page.
What happens if I enter a past date?
The countdown will display "This event has passed" along with how long ago the event occurred. It then switches to counting up - Showing days, hours, minutes, and seconds since the event took place. This is useful for anniversaries or tracking how long something has been going. For a live count of days since your own birth date, see the age in seconds calculator.
Can I share my countdown with others?
Yes. Click the "Share" button to copy a URL that opens the same countdown for anyone you send it to. The event name, date, and time are all encoded in the URL. No account is required to share a countdown.
Can I embed a countdown on my website?
Not directly via an embed code from this tool. The simplest approach is to link to your shareable countdown URL. For embeddable widgets, check the custom countdown builder which generates URLs suited for sharing on social media and messaging apps.
Can I count down to events that span multiple days?
This tool counts down to a specific date and time - The start of an event. For multi-day events like a vacation or conference, set the countdown to the start date. Once the event begins, you can use the Date Calculator to calculate the end date or remaining duration of the event.
